kitchen manager/cook

We are searching for a Kitchen Manager/Cook with culinary experience and an ability to work with volunteers. The Kitchen plays an important role in providing a Christ- centered, welcoming environment for our summer campers, year round guests, and staff and this position plays a key part in creating and maintaining that environment.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise summer staff and volunteers assigned to the food service area

• Produce quality and visually appealing meals for guests

• Maintain a clean and efficient kitchen

• Plan and prepare menus in conjunction with camp Director

• Work with the Director to order and purchase food within the camp's budget

• Assist with a group’s special requests (as needed)

• Visually identify hazards, needed repairs, and necessary cleaning throughout the

kitchen, and communicate any needs to the Director in a timely manner

• Clean up meals, put away leftovers, and assist with kitchen and dining room cleanup

• Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

• 21 years of age or older

• Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage a variety of tasks

• Kitchen experience of at least 6 months

• Prior experience cooking food for large groups preferred, but not required

• Capability to prepare quality meals for groups of up to 200 people

• Holds a current ServSafe® Manager Certification (or equivalent) or the ability to complete

food manager training prior to start date

• Proficiency in kitchen equipment operation

• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift or carry items 40 lbs. or less

• Experience in supervising and giving direction to other workers

• Agrees to daily commute to the camp property

• Maintains a flexible schedule


COMPENSATION:

Wages are a flat “per meal” amount based on the number of people served.

This is a part-time position which involves providing meal service for summer camp programs (June - August) and year-round retreat groups (typically on weekends).

Park Springs is looking for mature, motivated, hardworking Christians, ages 18 and older who desire to be an integral part of changing lives at Park Springs. All staff members will have the option to be trained as a RED CROSS lifeguard and will be trained on the climbing wall and zipline. Staff is also trained in American Heart Association CPR and First Aid. All training is free of charge.
